  • Breaker: A group of Magic users who have the ability to break a Spark. They are both feared and revered for the service they provide. Most pull their Magic from Destruction, Death, or Metal.

  • Community: An group of individuals united by their lived experiences. Individuals can join other communities, but this is a task that requires time and commitment to learning the ways of the new community. Most communities have a guild specifically designed to aid this transition. This is a factor that helps determine an individual’s Force affinities.

  • Cycle: A measurement of a single day and the base for measuring larger periods of time; multi-cycle = week; plethra-cycle = month; ultra-cycle = year. A cycle is 30 hours, a multi-cycle is 9 cycles, a plethra-cycle is 6 multi-cycles, and an ultra-cycle is fifteen plethra-cycles.

  • Deities: The fifteen godly beings that rule over the world. Most Deities have no gender identity and will respond to whatever pronouns those addressing them use. Some Deities are assumed to go by specific pronouns and, in general, they will stick with the same pronouns when interacting with individuals with this assumption.

  • Kabettle: A hard-shelled variety of herd creatures with a spikey mandible. Their shells are often used for drinking vessels, bowls, and even armor if the shell is large enough. They provide a gamey, but nutritious meat and contain a milky substance that is more hydrating than water. In recent years they have been domesticated due to a new technique that allows the milk to be extracted without killing the kebettle. They live in small herds and mainly eat carrion and vegetation when they can find it. Those who make a career of catching wild kabettle are called Wranglers.

  • Karma: A measure of positive and negative actions which is examined by Palec, Deity of Death, after the individual’s passing. • Magic: The energy which is channeled through an individual’s Spark and allows the use of Powers.

  • Old Language: A near-forgotten language that preceded the Trade Tongue.

  • Outsider: A member of the Scorpid people who are ostracized for having an intact Spark and the ability to use Magic.

  • Powers: Magical abilities empowered by the Forces and channeled through an individual’s Spark. Some communities, heritages, and territories have affinities for certain Forces, but individuals are not restricted to those Forces.

  • Scorpid: A community of people who live in inhospitable areas due to being banished from most territories after their ancestors betrayed the Deities by empowering Cres, Deity of Chaos. All but a rare few (Outsiders) have a broken Spark and will never be able to use Magic. They face harsh prejudice, but serve an important role in helping travelers find their way through the Scorpid’s territories.

  • The Serene: A plane of existence where the dead are sent to rest if their Karmatic balance is in the positive if they do not choose to return to the living.

  • Spark: The source of an individual’s Magic which is empowered by one of the fifteen Forces. Most people possess a Spark, though not everyone is able to harness their Magic at the same level.

  • Territory: A location where individuals reside which can be made up of various communities and is another factor to determine Force affinities.

  • Trade Tongue: A commonly spoken language meant to make trading between territories easier.
